The Designed Change Process

We affirm and support

The NECESSITY of DIVERSITY

Celebrating Differences

Human beings learn from infancy to conform, to preserve the society. Another form of conformity is when one conforms to the opposite of what is demanded. It's called "rebellion". What organizations require, in order to meet changing markets, materiel and technology, is MAXIMUM VARIETY, variety integrated into an operating unity without any loss of the variety of resources. Notice how Celebrating Differences (just one technique of the Designed Change Process) instantly accomplishes both. Rapid change around us now demands well managed variety.

Designing Differences

The Eskimo has thirty words for "snow". That's what they say. It is a false statement. The Eskimo has thirty words for thirty different things. The Eskimo can think about those thirty different things, and you cannot. Now, take this simple example into your staff, and notice what differences can add to your problem solving, to your product development and to your marketing. Assemble a group and have them look at one of those 3-D pictures. Conduct a discussion of the 3-D image and involve those who cannot see it. All have the same basic data. Only a few can see it differently. To have all the options you must have all the perceptions, and be able to integrate them. You can do this with the Designed Change Process.

Change

Now consider this. We, on Planet Earth, are on a long trip. We do not know where we are going. We do not know what we are going to need when we get there. So we will cultivate MAXIMUM DIFFERENCES to provide the resources when we get there. We need different perceptions, thinking, cultures, ideas and backgrounds. And we must integrate these into a working unity. CELEBRATE AND USE THE DIFFERENCES. This can be accomplished with the Designed Change Process.
